Periodontal disease

What is it?
Periodontal disease begins with the accumulation of plaque that causes gum inflammation and tartar build-up.

Evolution? 
With the evolution of the disease and untreated, the gums will be shrinking, the jaw bone that supports the tooth is being resorbed and the tooth root is exposed. The teeth begin to shake and fall. 

  • Grade 0
Teeth white, pink gengive, without unpleasant odor. 












  •  Grade 1
Accumulation of plaque, gingivitis light begins to be noted unpleasant breath, there begins to deposition of tartar. This situation can be reversed with regular brushing.
 







 



  • Grade 2
Severe gingivitis, tartar build-up, and training grants around the teeth. Bad breath. Initiation of bone resorption.
It is usually reversible with treatment.












  • Grade 3
Greater retraction of the gums, large accumulation of tartar and pus, breath unbearable. There are already advanced bone resorption, the teeth will loosen and shake. Often it is irreversible, the affected teeth are a source of infection and to be extracted.

85% of dogs and cats over 3 years have some degree of periodontal disease.

How can I prevent this?
Starting from 6 months to milk teeth already substituiída by permanent teeth, so it is important from this point begin to accustom the animal to brush your teeth with a paste suitable for dog (without fluoride and without foam).
